Anyone have ideas on how to decorate reception tables and centerpieces?

by DIY wedding planner on December 10, 2011

Hi! I’m getting married on a budget, and I need ideas on how to decorate the guest tables (centerpieces, tablecloths, etc.) at the reception. I’m going kind of have a country wedding with mason jars, lanterns and such. My colors are kelly green and a very soft peach, so any DIY ideas you got let me know! Thanks :)
Thanks everyone! These are all great! :D

Well i really love candle centrepieces or flowers – However i like how you fill a vase filled with water and add a flower to it, Or a floating candle, Cheap and looks beautiful and you can make it how you want and to suit your theme.

Go to and search centrepiece’s to get some idea’s because it all comes down to personal taste. Or google wedding receptions and see what people have done as there centrepieces

Wow I really like your colors. Why don’t you put candles into the mason jars and just use that as a centerpiece? I’m using mason jars to decorate my wedding in a week and a half, we’re doing wildflowers in the mason jars. The centerpieces cost about $40 each which I didn’t think was too bad at all.

Ideas above very good. Also a very small grapevine wreath with a peach pillar candle in it. Have something under it to catch wax. Florist green foil or regular aluminum foil, just be sure it doesn’t show. Make bird nests out of spanish moss and buy small birds at places, I think Wal Mart might have them. Know Michaels and Hobby Lobby have birds and butterflies. Beautiful color combo!!!

1) How long do you have? The more time the better for this suggestion- find a brand of tomato sauce in a glass jar that you like. After you use it up, keep the jar. Over the course of 6 months to a year, you can collect a good amount of jars. I suggest Ragu or Classico.

2) using green as a color will save you a lot on flowers, you can use mostly greenery in your arrangements and just accent it with splashes of peach colored roses (or another flower) and berries. Bells of Ireland are a gorgeous green flower too- don’t forget to use those to give them some height. You could also use peach marbles or peach candy (not for eating obviously) to fill the jar and hold the flowers and greenery in place!

3) For the guest book table, get some old black and white pictures of your parents and grandparents, and maybe some baby photos of you two. put them in mason jars like this:
I would recommend putting one or two flowers coming out of the jar as well, behind the photo. Mix in a few jars with just candles inside too, if this is an evening event it will ad mood and romance.
Note how they used dried peas to hold the candles, you could do that in your centerpieces too with the flowers and it would be cheap!

These are two really pretty floral arrangements, in variations of your colors

Personally, I like the lightness of the peach in the 2nd one, combined with the bright green spiky flowers in the 1st.

4) Also, I recently picked up a cute little glass jar with an attached glass lid and metal hinge/clamp, it was adorable and it was only 1$ at the Christmas Tree Shop. If you can find enough, you could give one to each guest and have a candy bar where they can fill it. The jars came in peach, clear, and blue and they are about 4 inches tall with some small decorative designs in the glass. They were in the same section as the drinking glasses and mugs. I use mine as a sugar jar.

Whether you get the clear or peach, they would look really cute with a green ribbon around and you could easily prop the name card up against them and make them card holders as well. Or attach it to the top, and lay the jar on its side.

Hope that helps, good luck! I love your color choice :)

I was thinking either wild flowers or floating candles in the mason jars. Maybe with the candles you could have three different sized jars and put lots of greenery and/or some wild flowers around them. :)
If you google images mason jar centerpieces and mason jar wedding centerpieces you might find something nice that you like.
Maybe you could do something nice with some smooth pebbles or sand with the candles too. Maybe have the floating candles with the mason jars and then put the pebbles around the jars.
