Candy Bar?

by DIY wedding planner on October 6, 2012

we were thinking of doing a jelly bean bar as something fun to use as favors for our wedding next summer…but i have no idea how we would go about this.

Have any of you done this or know how it’s done? Are there companies that do it or is it a DIY kind of thing?

Thank you!

Just don’t do it. It’s a waste of money and your guests will make a huge mess and leave a ton of leftovers anyway. Seriously, I have never seen a candy bar pulled off successfully. It’s one of those things that are good in theory but a disaster in reality.

We did a candy bar at our wedding it was really a big hit. It can be expensive depending on what your looking to have in it or how much.
What we did was fill 12 different containers of all different sizes with candies that you would find in a variety store.
hot lips, sweetarts, jelly beans, mike & ike etc… Then we had labeled the jars with what was inside in funky letters.
Each jar had a scoop so that people werent just grabbing with their hands, There were little bags for people to fill with their fav. treats. We didn’t do this as a favor just something fun.

Hope that helps.

My fiance said his mother just went to a wedding that was really expensive and the thing that stood out most to her was a candy bar.
My family loves candy and i’m thinking of doing one for my wedding instead of a bunch of dessert people might not eat.
The other idea with the different containers sounds the best to me. Just go to costco or sam’s club and get a huge bag of jelly beans and separate them out by color, or go to jellybelly’s website and order what you want. some malls have candy stores where you can get one color or two colors.
(same with m&m’s)
hope this helps

While I’ve never seen it in person, I’ve heard and read a fair amount about them. It is strictly a DIY project. You can buy jars at Goodwill (if you don’t mind them being different sizes or shapes) or Walmart (if you want everything to look uniform). Some people buy candy in bulk online. You can also get it at Costco. Some people choose to color coordinate their candy selections but that limits what is available, so most people just use their favorite candy regardless of the colors.

You can buy Jelly Bellies in bulk at . Scoops can be found in the kitchen utensils aisle at Walmart or any grocery store.

Your day-of coordinator can set it up for you.

Great Idea!

I’m planning the same thing and like the person above said you can buy JellyBelly jellybeans in bulk, there is like a million different flavours and if you want you can even match them to you colour scheme
example: pink and yellow get strawberry, bubble gum and pina colada, lemon.

It would look really cool and everybody loves candy (or they should)

It is a pretty much DIY project. It is a great idea! I am doing a different version. Since we are getting married on Halloween, we will put the different types of candy in oversized martini glasses on each table as a centerpiece. People need to trick-or-treat their way around the tables if they want the candy another table has. I know its kind of cheesy, but I hope it works.

This is a DIY thing and the containers you can pick up at Wal-Mart, Michaels, Big Lots, many different places and usually $5-$10 per container..Unless you want like big glass bowls then I don’t know how much they are but it could look something like this for just jelly beans This is done with Mike and Ike but it’s just like it would be for jelly beans
Here is another site with ideas
Don’t listen to the other person, every wedding that I have seen/heard about having a candy buffet said it was a HUGE hit…We are doing one but will be the first in our circle so it should be fun :)

I saw on a wedding show that the candies coordinated with the colors of the wedding.

i am planning on doing one for my wedding next year, and i am still looking into what candy to get…. but i looked at this site and it was really quite helpful, and the gals on there are quite happy to answer any of your questions.

I think its more of a DIY thing otherwise it could cost quite a bit more then you intend on spending, so look around for barging on bowls and jars and look online for bulk lots of jelly beans or any other kind of sweet treat!

Good luck!!!
