My fiance and I have had numerous ideas for different types of weddings. Unfortunately it looks like were going to end up having the cookie cutter hotel ballroom wedding like everyone else has. Any ideas for ways to make it unique? We’re definitely on a budget so any suggestions will have to be pretty cheap and preferably DIY. For instance, I’m looking for creative ideas for guest books (no suggestions for signed picture frames please!), card boxes, centerpieces, favors, etc. Any ideas? Thanks!!

Lighting can really change everything! If you could fit that in the budget, it makes all the difference in the world. It gives that wow effect and sets the mood (with whatever color you want, like party could be pink or relaxed maybe an amber color).
For the guest book, you could make a scrapbook type photo album. make a regular photo album and put some cute little things or ribbon accents and leave most of it blank so the guests can sign the actual pages, black pages with a silver pen look really cute or even neon colored pens for a fun touch.
card box is easy. find a box or boxes, you can stack them if you want. Just wrap them in fabric and then cut a slot in the top for the guests to slip the cards in (if you use 2 boxes make sure you cut a square in the bottom box too that the cards fall in). Then just wrap a ribbon around it and add a personal touch if you want (feather, flower, rhinestone piece) and you have yourself a cheap but beautiful card box!
Centerpieces, if you want flowers then go with a florist, it just is a better alternative and you don’t save much money if you do it yourself. Plus, its a major thing you won’t have to worry about on the actual day or the night before. if you want a DIY idea. candles are always a good alternative. you could stack a buch of different sizes together and put some rose petals around it. or water is always relaxing and very modern. fill up vases with water and add floating candles. candle4less.com is a really good and cheapest website i’ve found for these supplies.
for the favors… if i knew you and your future hubby i could probably tell you the perfect thing. if you love sushi, maybe chopsticks wrapper with some craft wire. getmarried.com has lucky in love lotto tickets that are cute and cheap. wine stoppers if you are wine drinkers, lolly popss, or other candies. there are a bunch of things. look at theweddingchannel.com and theknot.com and exclusivelyweddings.com and advantagebridal.com. They all have good choices.

I hope I helped… Good luck!! and Congrats!!!!

Here goes….

Guest books: have a “wishing tree” made of manzania branches, check them out at save-on-crafts.com and have guests write their well wishes on cards and tie them to the tree. Then you can scrapbook the cards or frame them. check this out: http://www.bridalbuds.com/wp-content/uploads/wedding-wish-tree.jpg

Centerpieces: incorporate something that you and your fiance love! dont go with flowers…yawn. for example my fiance and i love to read so we are thinking of using stacks of used books with a little bit of flowers and candles to make the centerpieces unique. just think outside the box, if you both like to travel you can have travel guides or little globes. if you like movies can you have little popcorn holders instead of vases. get creative but add a touch of you to it!

Favors: NO ALMONDS! dear lord no matchboxs either. we are doing seed paper bookmarks (to go with the reading theme) but you could do a gift to charity and have cards saying “in lieu of favors we have made a donation in your name to XYZ charity”. or you could give out flip flops in your wedding colors if you plan on having lots of dancing so people dont have to dance in heels. just dont give out anything that is engraved with your initials or wedding date, because seriously, they dont want that in their house after the wedding is over. you could make your own cd’s with songs you love that mean something to you and your finace and create your own cd covers and give those out! people love music!

Something else we are doing to cut costs is to do and Ipod music set up instead of a DJ and on our RSVP cards we are having a spot that says “You must play this song:” so that we can get a mix of all our guests musical tastes and put that into the mix. That way we can make sure that everybody likes at least one song lol!

I hope at least one of these ideas helps! Good luck to you and congrats on your upcoming wedding!!!

What if you gave your guest something they could use as a wedding favor? Like for instance… tooth brushes or floss. If you go to the dollar store you can pick up some wacky little ideas like that and use them as wedding favors.

When you decorate the tables why display photos. Do you own a bunch of photos in frames that you could display on your tables? Flowers can be expensive, so why not just buy some fake flowers and display them on the table?

Instead of buying a guest book, why not have your guest sign a tee-shirt or something? Or you could buy a huge canvas at the craft store and have your guest write on the canvas or draw on the canvas. Then you’ve got something that you could hang up in your house as art.

Being creative is a wonderful idea! I hope my ideas help!
