Cupcake Centerpiece Ideas?

by DIY wedding planner on August 16, 2012

I’m thinking of making a two tier cupcake stand and using the bottom tier for cupcakes (a deviation of the traditional wedding cake), while using the top tier for a bowl with silver stones and the table number in a vellum wrapped candle. Is this too DIY kitchy feeling?

I think it sounds like a great idea. As long as it looks good and you and your spouse-to-be are happy with it i’d go for it. Alot of people do DIY weddings these days and to be honest some of the DIY stuff does look better than professionally made items, and is half the price!

Im getting married in a couple of years time and myself and my fiance will be doing some of the bits ourselves. Homemade deatils can make all the difference on your big day.

Good luck with your wedding and hope all goes well for you x

I loved your phrase “DIY kitchy” feeling! And I think I agree with it (although it’s hard to picture the way you’re describing it). Not only does it sound kind of like a kid’s project, edible centerpieces are generally discouraged, because people (and not just children) can’t resist the urge to start pulling at them.

If you want cupcakes instead of a cake, there are lots of DIY ways to pull this together so it looks nice. And I’d think there are still lots of cost-friendly ways you can incorporate the table # into the centerpiece.

Great idea! I think making your own cupcake tower would be really fun. MY DW and I found some great resources when we were planning our wedding. We went with a small traditional cake on top and cupcakes underneath for our guests.
