Did you make your own invitations?

by DIY wedding planner on October 3, 2012

We are going to DIY our invites ~ we have researched different crafts stores & have loads of ideas. The only problem is the envelopes.

We haven’t found envelopes that we think will work well & are considering just making our own. Is this difficult? Do the envelopes hold up? Any tips or advice?

I have made my own envelopes when making stuff for friends ~ but they always end up a little bulky. Plus, they definately appear homemade ~ and not always in a good way LOL! We would like our wedding invites to be a little nicer ;)
Archivers looks awesome ~ I have never heard of it before, but fortunately there is one in my city ~ yay :) Weather, permitting, I’ll check them out tomorrow.

We found envelopes at Archivers (which is a photo memory store but has LOTS of scrapbooking stuff)

If you’d like some sites to possibly find some envelopes that may work for you let me know :)

i did my own invitations…i bought a normal invitation kit…then bought vellum…i had pretty text in the invitation kit card stock…then on the vellum we printed a watermarked picture of our engagement pictures…i punched the holes and did a bow…it came w/ envelopes but the ones to mail them in can be bought at office depot…but they do come in a package of 500 or 1000…i forget…and they’re white and the perfect invitation site…i haven’t taken a pic of it but its so beautiful

I’m planning on making my own invitations also… handmaking the envelopes sound a little tedious though…

I have also been looking at Archivers… they have a good selection.

Another awesome site for DIY is http://www.mountaincow.com

They have software for designing invitations… which could be a little price… but they also have a REALLY good selection of colors and styles of papers and envelopes for making your own invitations.

i think with all of the things to DIY for your wedding, I would save the time & effort & just try and find envelope somewhere. I don’t know how the price would compare with the other suggestions that you got from people, but as a graphic designer, I know that paper companies carry a huge selection of envelopes. They have a wide range of sizes, and you can order them in any kind of paper you want. You can contact the companies & get free sample books mailed to you (I like Fox River & French Paper Co.)

Check paper-source.com. They have tons of good-quality envelopes. They also have an envelope template for making your own, which if you buy you could adjust the size if need be.
