DIY wedding favors? Ideas, please!

by DIY wedding planner on December 8, 2011

My fiance and I are paying for our wedding ourselves so I need to keep the price down whenever I can. In addition, we will have almost 300 people at our wedding so wedding favors can prove to be outrageous in price. I love arts and crafts, so what I want to know is if anyone has any ideas of inexpensive favors that I can make that will be completely unique? I would love to have something that you don’t see at every wedding. Thanks.

What about finding inexpensive small photo frames and painting on the date of the wedding and maybe your names (if there is room). It’s in my experience if the favor isn’t personalized in some way it really just gets tossed as soon as the guests get home.

It’s not really that unique, but they are inexpensive. Get heart shaped cookie cutters and attach a little poem to them. You can just google cookie cutters and get them in bulk for cheap… That’s the only thing I could think of! Good luck…

I would look on line at they have many favor ideas that you can do yourself and they are very inexpensive.

A wedding I went to recently was large. The B&G created a mixed music CD with their photo on it for everyone. They are a Persian/Indo Canadian couple so the music was a mix of ethnic and mainstream. Very cool idea.

hmmm…besides the everyday things you always see, like matchbooks and bubbles and bottled waters…you could look through craft stores or those catalogs that sell little trinkets in bulk and see if you find anything out of the ordinary that you like. You can get pretty much get anything and print out little tags with your names and wedding date on it, punch a hole in them and tie it with ribbon.

My second choice was to do a $1 scratch lottery ticket. Obviously, your cost is just $1 per person. I’m not really crafty, so my mind doesn’t head that direction… my photographer suggested an idea about setting up an area for couples/families/groups to take photos, and each person chooses one that’s printed during the reception for them to take home (or attach it to a “favor” holder with your names and date on them). He’s done it where the bride and groom pay for it, or the guests pay for their photos (and certainly, they pay for any additional photos). Kind of odd, but there you go.

I know what you mean with that many people it can be very expensive so if you have a 99 cents store in your area i would go there and check their bridal section, it sounds weird but they have a lot of cute things ,one thing i really like and i know Michaels had it for 4 dollars instead of 99 cents is a a little clear heart shaped box i thought you can get some almonds and wrap it with pretty robins ,and the good thing is those things come 6 or 8 boxes per package for 99 cents only .
Hope i helped.

you can always check out this web site:
I am going with the chest style for my bridal shower with taffy inside. Sona, the owner, is making my favors for our wedding as well. She is a new to this and is willing to help. Price is great!

Good Luck!

I think this is THE best idea for favors. I’m not a person who wants to take home a frame, champagne glass or anything else with the couple’s name and date on it. WASTE OF MONEY…these things are only special to the two of you. What i suggest is to take however much money your budget will afford and make a donation to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital in Tenn. They have scrolls you can order after making the donation, as many as you need, explaining that a donation has been made in the names of your guests. They do great work there, it’s my favorite. now, I’m sure there are other charities that do the same so check out whatever you would like to support but for me, it’s St Jude’s! Thank God I’ve never had to use their care, but that’s where I would go and would recommend if needed. As little as $1 per guest (i don’t think there’s a minimum) or whatever you can afford. And, no work involved! Check out the website. Good luck and have a fabulous day!!
