I am a DIY bride for the most part… Who do I get to decorate the day of my wedding?

by DIY wedding planner on January 16, 2012

I am creating a candy buffet, and several other decorations for the ceremony & reception for my wedding. My only problem is I’m getting married in ballroom where we are unable to decorate the night before. Who can I get to decorate the day of without costing me an arm & a leg?

Is the reception in a different location from the ceremony? For my sister’s wedding she couldn’t go the night before to decorate, but we went the morning off, after our hair appointments to decorate. It was really fun!

We just had a sandwich platter out for lunch and the bridal party and my sister decorated for a couple hours before heading to her house to get dresses. It depends on when the ceremony is planned for, because you don’t want to get up too early … but it worked for her wedding.

For my wedding I am dropping all the decor off at the rehearsal dinner and they are decorating the room for us. Our ceremony is in the same room as the dinner reception, so they will be setting up for the ceremony and they we leave for cocktails in a different room, and as they set up the tables for dinner, the staff will be putting out the centerpieces, etc.

Talk to your venue about what they can offer. Or maybe look into a wedding planner for just the day of (which is much less money than having a planner for your whole wedding) You could also ask a close friend or family member that isn’t directly involved in the wedding (not in the wedding party) to go in early and do it for you too. Maybe that could be their wedding gift to you, helping you out with set-up.

Best Wishes!

Your family and friends! You shouldn’t be worrying about decorating the day of but find out if your family and friends would mind going there a few hours before and decorating. Including your mom, FMIL, and then some close friends.

My gameplan for decorating was going to be first thing the morning of the wedding before I go to get my hair and makeup done – - in the event we cannot get in the night before to decorate.

recruit some of your wedding guests! I’ve done this for friends several times. ask your friends who are attending but not in the wedding party to show up early and decorate and set up the candy. give them the supplies they need the week before the wedding and explain in detail how you want things set up.

My friend just did this, and she had her mom, sister, and aunt do it while she was getting ready. It looked great. :) Just make sure you tell them EXACTLY what you want, and where, and how.

I’m sure you’ve got some family members or friends willing to help you on your big day!

I asked the wife of one of the groomsmen. She designed movie props for a living, so she was ideal. =D Her hubby helped out, too, as did another friend of mine who didn’t have an official role in the wedding but was still a very good friend. It was amazing how hard the two of them worked!

Im having my close friends of the family go in a decorate for me however we will be able to get in the night before so i can get them the general idea of what i want. And also my reception venue is two buldings down from the church so they could set up right til the timme of the wedding and not miss anything.
