I am hosting a bridal tea, and I need favor ideas please?

by DIY wedding planner on June 11, 2012

I am planning a work wedding shower for a friend of mine. The original plan was to take her to a tea house, but that is way beyond our budget, so we’ve decided to have it at work. I’d still like to make it as nice as possible though, and give out favors. Does anyone have any ideas for inexpensive (possibly even DIY) favors for 50-70 people in a tea party theme?

Thanks. :)
Thanks so much for the answers so far! I love the idea of including something edible or teas, and I also like the hibiscus iced tea idea to serve since it will be warm weather (wish we could have it outside!). I just looked at our staff list, and there are definitely closer to 50 people, and I only expect about three quarters to come, so this helps. :)

Have a nice cold jug of Hibiscus tea. It’s flavoured iced tea and it’s lovely! Add sugar if you want it sweet. Here’s how you make it:

Hibiscus, mint or jasmine teabags
1 Clementine
1 tbsp Caster sugar
3 Handfuls of ice
3 Sprigs of fresh mint

Put the teabags (Hibiscus teabags) into a large jug, then use a speed-peeler or just a potato peeler to peel off the skin of the clementine and the lime into long strips. Add the peel to the jug along with the caster sugar. Fill the jug halfway with boiling water and leave to steep.

Remove the teabags. Add a few large handfuls of ice to the hibiscus tea, then halve the clementine and the lime and squeeze in all their juices. Add both halves of lime and the sprigs of mint to the jug.

If you have 50-70 people you may need at least 3 jugs so try and multiply everything by three.

It looks really beautiful with the mint leaves and the whole glass jug theme. :) Your friend will be very impressed. :D It’s tastes amazing. Trust me it’s by Jamie Oliver!

let’s see, I’ve been to so many showers I should remember the favors. I got one that was pretty cool, a small terra cotta pot with a packet of seeds and gardening gloves and it says ‘let love grow’ or something. another idea is something edible like chocolates or once I got homemade chocolate dipped rice crispy treats, and put a tag on them with the wedding date. at my shower my mother in law put together chocolate favors that were made by a company located on the island where we got married.

hey if it’s a tea, give little organza bags with assorted tea bags in them. you can get the bags at any craft store.

You can take tulle, cut it into nice sized squares, and do an assortment of teas in each one. Then, tie it up with a nice ribbon. Here in the US, we use tea bags and not loose tea. So, it would be easier to do here. I’m sure with a little creativity that you can find a way to do this with loose tea. I would say that putting everything in a nice tea cup would be a good favor, but when you are buying 50-70 tea cups, that gets kind of expensive

Sometimes you can by little shaped candy molds. If you can find one that is a tea pot or tea cup shape, you can make your own chocolates or mints and use those as favors.

Good luck!

This will depend on the crowd, most people will think this is garbage, but you could spool knit coasters, it’s the easiest thing to do. Looks like this in the end: http://www.sugarncream.com/newsletters/dec2010/coaster.jpg

As you know, edibles are always popular! You’ll find some neat ideas on Etsy. This nougat looks scrumptious: http://www.etsy.com/listing/69993352/weddings-sampler-of-8-flavors-almond-and?ref=sr_gallery_1&ga_search_query=nougat+wedding&ga_search_type=all&ga_facet= Or try a local shop, I’m sure you’ll get some ideas. How about chocolate spoons? These are handmade and would be easy to do yourself: http://www.oldfashioncandy.ca/linked/spoons-%20f.jpg Fudge would be good too.

You could even give tea leaves/bags.

Good luck!

Whatever it is, make it edible. People like things they could snack on.

Ya know what I would do…

Whatever food/snacks you plan on having at this tea party/shower…make extra…A LOT EXTRA. Then have cute boxes and cute baggies for people to fill up and take with them when the party is over.

Make some biscottis! They are super super easy to make and then you can get some dipping chocolate, dip the bottom, leave it to dry, and then put each into cellophane bags. They go with tea quite well and you can probably make enough in less than 2 batches, so it’s not expensive at all. =)

Chocolate covered Oreos are easy and delicious! Two in a box or tulle bag makes a great favor. You can get the candy mold for $2 and the Oreos at the supermarket!

Good luck!

My family always does teas instead of showers. For the last one I helped host we did tea light candles in tiny candle holders (they reminded me of shot glasses) with a flower etched on them. One of the other hostesses has a cricut, so we did a flower cut out and got some etching paste. They turned out super cute! We’ve also done petit fours instead of cake and packaged them in the little gift boxes you can get from Oriental Trading. Different flavored teas are always cute and maybe some tea cookies for them to take with them. Good luck!

There is a nice list of themed favors at the site below. Though website is all about African wedding traditions, of course the gifts are ones that anyone can appreciate.
