I need decoration ideas for my birthday party…?

by DIY wedding planner on April 30, 2012

I’m having an 18th birthday party and I want it to be very light and vintage inspired. The theme colors are white/off white and brown (inspiration here: http://weddinggawker.com/). I love everything about the spring wedding style this year and I want to bring it into my birthday party. Do any of you have ideas for decorations? Preferably diy or very cheap. Thanks!

Have a garden party…hang long ribbons of various patterns in the color scheme or accent color from a tree..or from small rod to hang up like a mobile. If party is indoors: hang ribbons from light fixture over table or where you think they would look good.

Use vintage pieces for serving and displaying appetizers and some light finger foods.
Make your own napkins…can be any kind of material cut in 12 in squares (pinking shears if you have them)….make napkin rings from felt and hot glue ornate button on it…then slip napkin through and fan them out or pile them on corner of the table.

Vintage jars, vases to hold either candles or single stem of a flower….do 3 in a group to place around for accent.

Find galvanized items (watering can, buckets, etc) from dollar stores, thrift shops and fill with fresh flowers.

Sheer gossamer fabric draped in doorways or on a porch and tied back with ribbons lends an airy feeling, too….shop clearance section in fabric dept….easy “no sew”>>use hemming tape to slip on a rod or a long stick, etc…..(nail or tape up the rod on the ends discreetly).

Create seating sections all around…be creative for tables for guests to place drinks.

Try using plastic Margarita glasses or the like (ok to use different ones, styles) to make individual chicken salad cups for serving: fill first with shredded lettuce, then add scoops of chicken salad on top (add grapes cut in half, diced apples, crushed nuts to recipe).

A chocolate fountain would look nice and good for fruit on skewers.

vintage style, why not add some exotic style, make it more special

Why not have a centre display of cupcakes – they are all the rage at the moment and cheap and versatile but a good display will look a million dollars and impress everybody!!
I use the web site below for finding cupcake recipes
They have some good recipes using everyday ingredients as well as more adventurous recipes and the cakes can be decorated to much your theme
Hope this helps

That sounds fun! Maybe you can add some tissue pom poms. They look like blossomed flowers and it just adds wedding-y, romantic atmosphere. Hope that helps
