Don’t forget about food for the 150 people.

Registered marriage w/o any reception will be the cheapest

With that many people … food will be expensive! You need to cut down that list!

Cash bar
Cake from a grocery store
Only offer appetizers (cheese & crackers)

For centerpieces use tealights and a small square vase with flowers floating … cheap and chique!

Do a simple food menu like bbq or a light italian pasta buffet. Take out the alcohol, that’s money right there. Don’t hire a pro dj, have a friend that is technically savvy and have the sound feed through the reception venue’s inhouse speakers. Have a small wedding cake for cutting and have the large sheet cakes in the back for everyone else. Pass on giving favors, no one uses them anyway and you can spend the money elsewheres so that you can increase the quality of food.

Make your own boquet and the boquets for your bridesmaids, here is a great tutorial. http://video.about.com/weddings/Make-a-Wedding-Bouquet.htm

Best of luck!

LOL good luck, it sort of depends what you want it to look like. How cheap you want it to look. Personally, if i had a very small budget, I’d marry in a church and then afterwards just parade everyone to a local bar to celebrate the marriage. Cover their drinks bill. Party hardy. You have all the people you love partying and celebrating you…why waste money on cheap decorations and a sit down dinner that will suck because cheap food tastes cheap? And most likely cash bar or no alcohol at all? That would suck.

Hi. I agree with the other posters. Before you think of anything DIY (decorations, etc.), FIRST think about the food/beverages to feed 150 people. That is going to cost you.

So, things to consider with your $3500
#1 – food and beverages
#2 – photographer
#3 – cake
#4 – music (DJ?)
#5 – invitations
#6 – does your reception hall include things like plates, cutlery, glasses, tablecloths? If not, you will need to rent these items.

What I did was I went out and bought wedding books. I looked inside and went out shopping to match the designs in the books. It looked almost the same but at a cheaper cost. My sister is a artist and we hand made all my invitations. Make sure to get a paper cutter to cut your invitations evenly. Also, buy the soft white thin tissue paper to use as a seperation on the inside of your invitations. My wedding was black and red too. The girls all bought their dresses through a book called Chadwicks. The dresses were off the shoulder black dresses. Not tight in fitting, but slightly. The dresses were only $30.00 each. Also, they can get their own design dress but in the same colors too. That looks pretty. We then went to Walmard and they got their jewlery. Or you can go to a jewlery store in your mall like Clairs or what ever you may have to get the jewlery. I bought a off white plastic table covers and put red and white fake rose peddles on the tables and went out and bought decorative bowls to put water in and a floating candles (make sure to buy extra floating candles to replace ones that burn out during the reception). We bough our own candies and made our own party favors for the tables as well. I bought thinner type paper (like typing paper, off white in color) and put all our information on the inside in Old English Script writing and rolled them up and put a fake wedding band (gold and silver) and placed them in a wicker basket right next to where they sign in to take as a memorabillia. One more thing, all my family (his side and mine) got together and did all the cooking for me (food, cookies, wedding cake….everything). That also saved me alot of money. I bought disposable cameras and placed them on the reserved tables only and at my parties table. I had a pig box or wicher basket by my parties table to put the cameras in when they were done with them. Some really good pictures came out of that. Funny ones too. You can also use bubbles or bird seed for when you both walk out of the church. We used bird seed.

There’s alot you can do to make your wedding just as beautiful. Just shop around with your books. Good luck to you. Any questions just ask.
