I want to DIY a Lolly Buffet for my wedding but need help…?

by DIY wedding planner on December 11, 2011

I am trying to DIY a few things for my wedding & think a candy buffet would be a great idea specially since there is a fair amount of kids attending.
Has anyone else done it? How many people did you cater for & roughly the cost?
Do you have any good websites to buy bulk lollies from in Australia?
what did you use as the bags / boxes?

These are becoming very popular. If you google, there are so many sites and pictures to see.
The best site that I have found is http://www.scoops-scoops.com it not only has scoops, etc. but has all kinds of containers bags and boxes. It also references another site
http://www.candywarehouse.com where you can buy bulk candy.
Put in candy buffets in Australia and got these sites below, some of the most gorgeous candy buffets I have ever seen.
http://www.candybuffet.com.au **this one has questions to help you get started and what you will need
Start looking at thrift stores, yard sales for containers. Check out dollar stores for clear containers.
Check places like Target, Wal-Mart, etc.
A good site for clear containers, apothecary jars is http://www.save-on-crafts.com
Figure one lolly per person and about 1/4th ounce per person on others; however, some will take more of their favorite, but it usually balances out. To get an idea of say hershey kisses, take some to local grocery store (if you don’t have a food scale, might be worth your while to buy one) but can use scales in gstores, take 1/4 oz. hershey kisses and weigh to get an idea of how many per person, also can do with other candies.
One suggestion, depending on your venue, it might be best to supervise kids and be sure they fix their boxes and take home. If they start eating candy at reception, possible spills, chocolate stains and a whole lots of hyper kids on a sugar high. After you weigh and get an idea of what you want per person (again they will mix it up, but it usually ends up “evening out”) then you will know how much to buy. Enjoy!

Not sure where in Australia you live but in WA places like crazy clarks sell big packets of lollies quite cheap and you could get nice glass jars from somewhere like Things. You can contact the suppliers or go to the factory shops that sell to suppliers to bulk buy or even party supply shops. Depends on your budget.
