I’m trying to find new music, what do you like?

by DIY wedding planner on January 1, 2013

Just trying to broaden my musical horizons, if you have any bands you’re adamant about, please share. =]

I like anything, but would like some more hardcore and indie stuff to add to my library.

“relatively new” Indie/Alternative bands:

Silversun Pickups
People in Planes
Cage The Elephant
Josh Ritter (not new but awesome nonetheless)
Phoenix (not new, but just hitting it big)
My Morning Jacket
The Virgins
Kings of Leon
Darker My Love
Bloc Party
Rogue Wave

Assuming you’re aware of the great bands of the 70s, here’s some other great modern rock bands to check out:
Breaking Benjamin
Three Days Grace
Foo Fighters
Pearl Jam
10 Years

Here’s some bands and descriptions I love. I’ll try to be diverse:

Breathe Carolina – Not for everyone. This is a sort of electronic/screamo duo. If you are just getting into screamo, this is a good transition band since there isnt alot of screaming in thier music. They have sick dance beats and super sexy lyrics. Their whole new album is great, but some of my fave songs are The Birds and The Bees, Diamonds and Show Me Yours. They also redid Miley Cyrus’s See You Again! Fun stuff!

The Jakes – A relatively unknown indie band from Cali. They were one of purevolume.com’s 21 Top unsigned artists of 2008. The genre is sort of bluesy/alt rock. Their entire album “Shake My Hand” is awesome. You can hear all of it on Purevolume and their Myspace. My fave songs are Texas Tea and Schizophrenia.

Bring Me The Horizon – I just recently got into screamo, and this is the newest screamo album I got. The band’s new album, Suicide Season is pretty good. My parents think I’m becoming a Satan worshiper though now. lol. I like the songs Chelsea Smile and Football Season is Over.

3OH!3 – Newly popular because of their song Don’t Trust Me that got tons of airplay, but really, this is a great band. I discovered them over the summer in 08, and fell in love almost immediately. Sort of an alt rock/electronic band with some hip-hop beats. Another duo band, one sings and the other sort of, raps. Awesome lyrics, and way too fun to dance and sing along with. I like the songs Starstrukk and Richman.

I don’t think these will be library ads for you, but you did say you wanted to broaden your horizons so I’ll offer you some older songs from when words were touching on the simpler complexities of life. You should be exposed at least once.
Watchin Scotty Grow – Bobby Golsboro
In the Ghetto – Elvis Presley
Every Grain of Sand – Bob Dylan
Father & Son – Cat Stevens
I’m in a Hurry – Albama
