Is it cheaper to get a wedding planner or do it yourself?

I always wonder that, like a wedding planner, won’t they get you good deals because of there connections and know what there doing?

Depends. Sometimes they can find the right deals, and sometimes they can’t. Also, the stress levels of having to essentially plan your own wedding is very different as well. It depends also on your connections and on your budget. Obviously wedding planners are expensive…so its all about whether you think that you will save the amount of money that you will pay her in other prices down the road.

I am wondering this myself. It would be very helpful, because wedding planning takes a lot of time, and we all know time is money. I think it comes down to, do you have enough time to do it on your own, or would it make things easier if you had somebody to help you.

the purpose of having a wedding planner is not as much for money saving or getting “deals” as it is for the purpose of having someone who is experienced and knowledgable to help you get through the hundreds of decisions and all the vendor contracts you must sign, the legal matters you have to deal with such as insurance issues, permits, or city ordinances. etc.

it is also to provide you with a stress free wedding where you have someone to rely upon on the day of your wedding to make sure everyone is doing what they are supposed to be doing and that everyone is where they are supposed to be when they are supposed to be there.

there are lots of small last minute details the wedding planner takes care of to relieve the bride from being troubled by such things on her wedding day. for instance, i have had to make corsages or cake toppes at the last minute because the florist forgot to include them. i have had to track down baskets to hold flower petals for the bridal getaway because no one thought to bring them, i have had to decide what to do with centerpieces after the reception because the bride and her family left without leaving instructions for them, i have even had to comfort a weeping bride and find a last minute seamstress because 2 days before her wedding her gown was delivered and was 4 sizes too large.

all weddings have last minute things which go wrong, but having a wedding planner keeps the bride from having to handle these things or even from having to know about them.

however, wedding planners are in business to make money so they will expect to be paid and that is an added expense for your wedding. normally, wedding planners have arrangements with certain vendors they customarily use where the vendor gives the wedding planner a finders fee for bringing them customers and sometimes the vendors will also give the customer a discount, but not always.

however they can save you many hours of time and effort and even help you avoid making costly mistakes in choosing your vendors. a wedding planner should able to hear your vision for your wedding and know exactly where to find all you will need to bring it to pass. a really good wedding planner can sit down and talk to you and even if you do not know what your vision is, he/she can draw things out of you until you end up with exactly the wedding you want.

i am biased of course since i am a wedding planner, but unless you are good at organization and know how to really dig to find things, you will probably be very glad of hiring a good wedding planner to help you do your wedding.

I did not want a weddingplanner. I can plan myself. Sure maybe they could have gotten me a better deal, but I would have lost the money with their fee. Plus chances are it would not have been as perfect and me as it was now. Having said that I am used to working in projects so that was easy enough
