Plan the wedding yourself. A wedding planner will always choose the most extravagant options. However, a wedding planner has probably been planning weddings far before you even thought of marriage, so she can be a good resource to have. You have to think about whether or not you have the time to plan. She can do everything in the half the time, for double the price.

Cheaper to do it yourself . . .sometimes.

My brothers both planned their own weddings and there were lots of last-minute things no one had thought of. In both cases the brides had major last-minute meltdowns because flowers were wrong, cake was late, dress didn’t fit, hair looked bad, etc. So I highly recommend getting a planner.

Wedding Planner:
More expensive, but less headaches.

You Plan Your Wedding:
Less expensive, but MORE headaches.

I am planning my own, but its cool- everything is working out.

It’s monetarily cheaper to do the planning yourself….as far as the stress, it might be worth it to you to hire a planner. It depends on how well you deal with stress.
I planned my own wedding, and I saved a ton of money. Towards the end though, I was tearing me hair out I was so stressed.
Good luck though!

I would imagine it’s cheaper to plan your wedding with out the help of a wedding coordinator because you would have to pay her as well as all your other vendors. Although it is possible through her expertise she is able to save you a few bucks through personal connections of hers, etc. I am wondering if I should hire someone as well, so I can sympathise with that question! Good luck!

DIY is always the cheaper option. I reccomend trying it yourself first. If you find out you can’t then you can call the wedding planner and no harm done.

People say wedding planners are cheaper because they get you these “discounts” at places…but you can do that yourself by negotating and you have to remember that you are probably paying them quite a bit to get that “discount”

I do highly reccomend a day of coordination though. Basically you have a wedding planner (or anybody who you trust) that is ‘IN CHARGE’ on wedding day and handles any problems instead of vendors bothering you or hubby.

The wedding planner is not going to plan your wedding for free so of course that right there is already saving money. I don’t know why people always say planning a wedding is hard. I’m having a blast planning mine. it’s may 3 2008. we started early everything will be paid for by December and we will have the rest of the time to relax and wait for the wedding day. if you need help email me. and i’m planning my wedding from new york where i live the wedding is actually in miami florida. and i am not stressed… YET. but i know it will be ok. its more fun when you do it yourself.

It really depends, a lot of times wedding planners can get really good deals on things, like a caterer, reception hall, cake, etc. It’s also a lot less work for you, but you still get to plan and pick everything, so it’s not like the whole thing is in their hands…BUT you also have to pay the planner…sooo I’d say in the very end, it’s cheaper to do it yourself, but so much easier with all the little things to have a planner do it.

A wedding planner in the long run wil help you more then DIY. A wedding Planner come with vendor that he or she has work with a have a partnership with in this case you can get a discount from the vendor when you have a wedding planner. Wedding Planner also know cheap ways of get thing done. I would go with a wedding planner.

All I know is that my fiance was against getting a planner, so I have been blindly doing it myself. I REALLY wish I wold have ignored him and hired a planner. There are so mnay things I didn’t think of until it was too late.

Of course it’s cheaper to do it yourself, with help of family. A wedding planner not only takes 10 per cent of the budget, but usually will try steer you to pricier options, maybe…

Actually, it’s not always cheaper to do it yourself. Wedding planners are no longer just for celebrities and people with money. They actually save you money with great negotiated rates with any supplier. they will negotiate a better price for you with any supplier you choose, or use ones they recommend. even tho they charge a fee for their time, it usually ends up being cheaper or the same if you did it yourself, but you save time and sometimes even money. For example, a reception might cost $10000, they can probably get it for $9000 and they charge 10%, which makes it $9900. You save $100 plus you get a wedding planner to do it all for you. over the cost of a total wedding, you’ll be saving plus you get a wedding planner too.
Wedding planners are no longer what people think they used to be. if they’re not saving you money, even with their fees, then they’re too expensive. find another one.
