I dunno…I’ve heard nothing lately. Went to rateyourmusic.com to see what their community had as the top punk rock albums for the last few years…and literally everything was a ton of hipster post-hardcore (not the scene stuff like Black Veil Brides and stuff, but the pitchfork-approved hipster indie rock fusion stuff), deathgrind, and stuff. Nothing punk rock like in the 70s, 80s, and 90s.

Nothing.

And if there is some true punk rock bands, they are extremely underground and well even if they’re good, they’re just not that distinct. What do you think?
blink-182′s last album was strictly alternative rock. Only a few pop punk songs and one punk rock song. Everything else was alternative rock.

Punk is not necessarily dead, It has just evolved into something else. Alot of my musician friends said (their opinion) think that when Nirvana came out they believe that was metal stripped down with thant punk edge to it. Keep it mind alot of hard core metal groups owe their influence to the Punk scene like “Sex Pistols” is a great example. Just a thought !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The real punk rockers (raises hand) are still out there. Technically I don’t think a genre “dies”. It’s just hidden until someone brings the true meaning of it back again.

If you mean REAL punk rock, Sex Pistols, The Ramons, Anti-Nowhere League, then yes. If you mean Punk-pop like Avril Lavigne, Pink, Blink-182, then no.

It’s just different phases of music. Glam rock/metal isn’t about anymore, then again, so has Country, Classical, Jazz, Soul and Blues.

But you can always listen to what you like on your phone/iPod/computer, you don’t have to listen to the radio :)

As for singed bands that are popular, I guess so but people seem to think that is it is after like the 90′s or what ever it is poser punk rock no matter WHAT it sounds like.

Blink-182 and Sum-41 exist.

that should answer your question.

The only current artist that I can think of that is truly punk thats out now would have to be
The Distillers. Other than that, yeah punk died.

There are real punk bands out there, they are just underground, and out of the public eye. Which….well I guess that does make it fit in more with the punk way.

It is a bit sad though that people are listening to more pop punk garbage like blink-182 and green day and sum 41 and all these other benders. Their feeble whinieness is offensive.
