Our budget is next to negative, and I’m looking for more DIY ideas. Most of all, we’re shooting for fun. The wedding will be at the end of July, so time is slightly an issue as well!

Hmmmmm, ok then you might want to plan to have the wedding itself at perhaps a park by a lake? You can go online to buycostumes.com they are having clearance sale right now, they have a few different pirate/ wench costumes…. For decocorations you could go to michaels, paperwarehouse, hobby lobby etc and get some cheap white decorative fishing nets.. to make them look more authentic you could boil them with a couple of tea bags, this will give them the aged look. There are other pirate decor ideas at places such as partygalaxy, partyusa, paper warehouse etc.. As far as the reception, you might want to have a crab boil. Maybe have a “buried treasure” with those little gold foil candy coins… You could put the actual treasure map on your wedding invitations..

Sounds like fun.

There are a couple ladies at http://www.midnightgarden.com/wedding/board who had pirate themed weddings.

This has decorating ideas as well as menu ideas. Alot of things can be DIY if you have time and inclination:

A water feature (perhaps from a bird bath) and a ship floating in flower petals

sailor theme table layout

Have a chest to put presents in or coats from guests.

Print a map with X marks the spot of the venue

Have speeches read out from hand made scroll, (you know the old wipe a cold tea bag over the white paper and burn the edges with a candle)

Have barrels with white ribbons and fabric

Have large empty bottles of rum with candles on the top

Look for a pirate reenactment guild in your area; they might be able to provide entertainment and suggestions. The guild I belong to is located in the Bay Area, and they often do events like b-days and stuff like that, at little or no charge (depending on the circumstances). We had a pirate wedding, and they put together the whole thing for us; it was a ton of fun. E-mail me if you’d like, I can put you in touch with them.
