Has anyone done the DIY thing with their rings at a workshop? Did it work out? It seems like such a romantic idea! Was it worth it?

My wedding ring will be fairly complicated, though. Would some details like milgraining and setting my fiance’s grandmother’s diamond in a fishtail setting make it impossible to still build the basics of the ring ourselves?

I think it looks really cool but pretty expensive. I guess it depends on what you had in mind to spend, I was only going to spend around $100 for my wedding band. It does look romantic though and would make them really special. You shoul contact one of these places and explain what you want, they should be able to tell you whether you will be able to do it yourself or not.

I did one as part of a project for my college Jewelry class.

It’s pretty difficult and for something like a wedding ring you need especially good skills to make it smooth, comfortable, and fit properly. On top of that you want milgraining and a stone set in it.

Not a good idea to DIY….at least not for this occasion. Save this for an anniversary and start off with inexpensive materals and stones like a CZ that has no sentimental value.

I worked in the jewelry industry. Some skilled jewelers have trouble with some of the stuff you’re considering.

Would your fiance be ok with it if you broke his grandmom’s stone? (They do chip and break on occasion!)
