Tips on making wedding invitations?

by DIY wedding planner on December 7, 2010

I am thinking about making the wedding invitations for my 2009 wedding. The local craft stores in my area has a variety of papers among other materials. I am not 100% certain that I will be able to complete the task since I have never made invitations before. However your ideas and tips will be incredibly helpful. Also, what are the “in” colors and style these days? Thanks in advance!

this website is great the only thing you have to do is actually print the invitations which you could do or have them printed in a office store it takes away much of the work of doing them yourselves.

Do a lot of searching around for ideas. The great news is that you can make something really individual.

Buy some samples of the paper you like, and test. We found that the embossed ones didn’t take to the ink well.

Try this website for you DIY invites:

Not only do they sell everything you need for invites they can even send you your paper pre cut so that all your measurements are exact. Also, you can order a sample of any paper that you like so that you can play around with color ideas or textures before you place your large order.

They also have a tips/FAQ section that can help you with putting them together. As far as their pricing goes they are actually pretty cheap. I used them when I got married and I did a lot of searching!!!

If you go to avery paper products web site you can get a free wedding template from them. They have a wedding invitation section to save you money.

I bought my invitations at Michael’s craft store. There is a website you go to and design the wording on a template especially made for the invitation you select. (Says so on the box!) It’s pretty easy (and I’m not that computer savy). Then I used colored paper to line the inside of the envelopes to make them look nicer. We are also using an old wax seal set for the envelope back. Instead of trying to pring the addresses on the envelopes, we are hand addressing the front and bought a cheap custom stamp from ebay with our address to stamp on the back of the invitation and on the RSVP. I did not find it hard, but it is time consuming. You could always do the printing yourself and then have your bridesmaids come over and help you address, stamp, and use the wax seal. Could make a wine & pizza party out of it!
