Wedding centerpieces….DIY?

by DIY wedding planner on December 8, 2011

For my centerpieces I’m trying to replicate something like the first picture in this link

I would like to have the tree in this

my problem is I’m loving the square glass and I’m hoping to stay with that theme by using these votive holders which I found at a great price

but HOW on earth do I turn these into hanging votives?! I found DIY directions for hanging votives with wire but it requires a lip on the glass. Is there any way around this? Is it possible to drill small holes in the glass without it being a huge waste of time or is there some sort of strong adhesive that can hold the glass and metal wire together? Hopefully somebody out there can help?

heres the link to the hanging votive directions if it helps in any way

oh…and we have a very limited budget:/

thanks for the help! if anyone has done similar centerpieces I would love any other advice or pictures!!

Those branches are called “manzanita” branches. I’m doing something similar for my wedding. I ordered branches very cheap on ebay and they arrived perfect. There were a lot of people selling them so knowing the name is very helpful! You have to use those branches because they are the strongest. What I’m doing with them is hanging strands of crystal beads off the branches and putting votives on the table underneath so they light makes the crystals glow. Look up “crystal tree” and you’ll find soooo many tips on what you can do.

I don’t know what to tell you about drilling in glass…I’m sure you can, but keep looking and maybe you’ll find votives that hang on their own.

Good luck! It will look great, and SOOO affordable!

for help with buying all the stuff you need to accomplish this look, try this site.

if you already have the votives, you can use thin copper or brass wire to create a little basket sort of holder for them. you can get the wire at the above site as well.
