(we had a court house wedding before he left for iraq and are remarrying on his first leave home from deployment) and im looking for some wedding ideas. diy, wevsites, anything. we chose black and white with pops of red for our colors. im 19 hes 21 so were looking for traditional with unique and quirky touches to match our personalitys. if found wedding mags. to be pretty unhelpful aside from dress styles and i havent done well with websites either. if you have any ideas or magazines. or websites that would be great…have a nice day!

The best thing you can do is to go buy a wedding organizer you can find them at Borders or Barnes and Noble to help keep you organized and to give you the basic information on planning.

For do it yourself projects stores like Michael’s and Hobby Lobby have wedding sections as well as a bunch of inspirational ideas. Some even have classes related specifically to weddings. Also, the magazines are usually only good for ideas as most of the items they show case are extremely expensive and not local to your area usually.

My suggestion, start your own little notebook/checklist.
I did this to help, because you have a lot to tackle and not a lot of time.

1. First thing is you have to have is a venue (whether it is a church, chapel, backyard) so you can confirm your date. Then decide if you will send out save the date notices.
2. Once your date is confirmed-make sure you have an officiant if one is not provided.
3. Where are you going to party after….? Book your place and make sure before paying deposit that everything you want is included in the price they quote you (watch out for bar tabs, set up/clean up, and linen fee’s).
4. Now you have a Wedding time and place, and a reception time and place…..onto invitations.
5. You have alot of choices here you can do them yourself by going to a Micheal’s or AC Moore. Or you can go through a printer. * This is a great place to put some of your individual likes into your wedding.
6. Your photo’s…..most photographers are booked a year in advance but call around. Ask a photographer’s who work you like for suggestions. Maybe contact a local community college to see if anyone in thier art department is interested, you could also have a family friend or relative help. Decide if you want a DVD made, my suggestion ask someone to camcord it then set it to music after….so much cheaper.
7.Cake……so many choices nowadays. Call around I found big differences in prices between shops.
8.You said you have colors so hopefully you have dresses…if not pronto on that as they will have to be shipped in a hurry and altered….guys off to the Tux shop.
9. Shower and Bachelor Party….have fun. We got our rooms/yards for nothing and we catered the food ourselves so we saved here. For the shower decide how small or big you want to go….and Darn if that boy has been in IRAQ please let his buddies throw him a big party for all he’s been doing for everybody here at home.
10.Flowers….again you can go silk or real. If silk you can see if a relative makes them or AC MOORE will. I went real as it was a fall wedding and kept it traditional fall colors……you know though this might be a fun place for your creativity to come out.
11. Centerpieces and Favors….more time for you to be true to who you are. Oriental trading company is an online company and they sell some cute things…..we also burned homemade CD’s with our songs on them and we made the cover’s. Really go original here…..it is so much more fun than the traditional little bottle of booze. **They also sell bubbles for after the ceremony

(Honeymoon goodies and etc,….I am sure you will be able to find on your own.)

********Above all have fun this time, so that you will remember it as the best day of your life*********

Here’s a theme that would work with your black/white & red wedding colors scheme. It’s a Bride and Groom theme wedding. Think clean and classic black and white with your decor elements focusing on a black tuxedo and white wedding gown and touches of your red accents. Here are a couple of ideas.

Black and White invitations with a tuxedo and gown motif on them.

Tuxedo and Gown wedding favor boxes ( can be accented with a red ribbon)

Mini centerpiece cakes featuring different bride and groom cake toppers ( a conversation piece for guests, some whimsical, some from special family members or friends.)

Chair covers with a crisp black sash or white tulle sash/bow.

Mr. & Mrs or Bride and Groom chair covers in black and white.

Mini wedding bells to hold place cards

White wedding cake with a tiara on the top including the veil. Maybe with some red roses too.

Tuxedo shaped or inspired Groom’s cake.

Something Old Something New favor boxes.

This theme is unique and fun yet still has a classic style to it. Not too over the top. You may want to check out the new Modern Bride magazine. I just got it on Friday and it has a section with wedding ideas for different budgets. The first $5,000 budget was with a black and white color theme. Some of the ideas looked like DIY projects to me. Also check out Martha Stewart weddings (the best wedding magazine in my opinion) she has alots of DIY projects for weddings. I’ve done a couple myself for a few weddings. They look amazing but most are not hard to do at all.

Check out some of the links below for inspiration!
