I’m having my wedding reception at a community college dining hall (small budget). Its in January in Chicago, so there’s gonna be snow upto our ankes!! But the problem is that the dining hall has a whole wall of glass windows, and it over looks a small lake. During winter, the evenings usually get really dark and gloomy and i want to decorate the glass in a classy, yet inexpensive way…and i need ideas.

Here is a picture of the glass window..http://goforward.harpercollege.edu/cf_photos/gallery_pop.cfm?id=1634&do=pause&show=6

so all you DIY brides, wedding planners, decoraters…who ever has an idea..HELP because im desperate!

Thanks in advance :)
oh sorry the link wasnt working: http://goforward.harpercollege.edu/cf_photos/gallery_pop.cfm?id=1634&do=pause&show=6

I got a lot of my things for my wedding at the dollar store. They change up the stuff a lot so keep looking. You can get candle holders and tea light candles at the dollar store. I would use white Christmas lights and put them underneath a sheer table skirt for an elegant look. You can buy fake flowers there too and use those as well. We had our wedding almost a year ago and spent under $600 for the whole thing :) .

Good luck it sounds like it’s going to be beautiful.

Quick and simple, if there is enough of a lip on each pane of windows, buy tea candles put one in the center of each window pane and light them maybe put them in a candle holder that has a front picture and turn it towards the window to make it secure and less of a hazard, maybe tape them to the window with double sided tape … simple is the best way to make it look elegant without killing yourself….

this is kinda what I was talking about (from the side it looks like an “L”
they have prettier ones out there…

but this

would be just as gorgeous and you can use double sided tape to keep them in place without hurting anything!!!

Good luck

I love planning weddings and even though I am not a professional wedding planner I have done over a dozen weddings. A good Idea to fix the place is with christmas lights the ones that hang like icicles. If you choose to do this is a good idea to buy everything in Nov. since everything is usually cheaper. You might check at Ikea, they usually have nice lights like hearts and leaves and that sort of stuff. Since it is in christmas you might want to use ornaments with shiny colors such as white, silver, or gold, depending on the colors that you want. …. so that they bring out the view of the windows…..and it helps it not be so dark

I hope these ideas would be helpful…..

Judging by the picture of the venue, that’s a lot of windows and it looks like there’s no place to put tea lights as suggested. Those windows are up to the ceiling, so hanging christmas lights would be a challenge. My suggestion would be to have a few silk trees with white christmas lights on each tree. Set these trees equally spaced along the windows. Hopefully you’ll be able to find inexpensive silk trees and lights.

Why don’t you hang some snowflakes in front of the windows, you can get them at any arts and crafts stores. Get large ones and smaller ones and they will shine in the windows and look gorgeous.

Good luck!

I would buy some tulle and drape it from the top let it hang down to the floor and hang some clear stringed lights behind them to look kind of like a starry wall.

wow that’s a lot of windows. i’m a wedding planner in ny. you can get fishing line and and eye hook (ask persmission) and string it from one one of the windows to the other. get some draping material you can buy at shindingz or material from a linen wholesaler and drape it to your desire. you can also use a staple gun and drape the whole wall of windows…both ideas using a large material, or multiples, which ever you decide.

i also provide rental items that you can use and affordable to decorate the place, such as small lighting, vases, chair covers and more. i also have ideas on my rental page that you can use for decor
