What flowers would go best with these wedding colors?

by DIY wedding planner on July 11, 2013

I’m pretty artsy but even so I’m having trouble deciding on color/flower choices for my DIY bouquets. My wedding party will be wearing chocolate brown (men) and peacock blue (bridesmaids). The flower girls are wearing our accent color, which is purple.

Here are pictures of each:

I absolutely love blue dendrobium orchids: http://www.etsy.com/listing/69645893/blue-dendrobium-orchids-and-white-rose?utm_source=google&utm_medium=product_listing_promoted&utm_campaign=weddings_mid&gclid=CPrKlcKZy7cCFUQ6QgodMXkA-Q

…and would love to recreate this bouquet (but maybe not so….big): http://pinterest.com/pin/212232201161460099/

I’m also going to be adding some shabby chic to our bouquets since that’s our theme, such as burlap roses, lace, and pearls. I like the idea of some peacock feathers, but nothing crazy, just a touch.
I’m not sure whether to have blue, purple, and white in all bouquets, just mine..just theirs…? or what flowers would look good together with this color combo.

If you can give me some advice and/or pictures that’d be great!!

OK. I do a lot of floral designs for weddings as well as working as a wedding coordinator so I’ve seen a lot of what works and what doesn’t.
The blue orchids already have a lot of the same colors as the peacock feathers so I can see why you’re attracted to that idea. A lot of “shabby chic” decorations include elements of “shabby” (burlap) and “chic” the pearls and lace.
However, not all of these things go together. For instance, adding the peacock feathers and pearls take the look all the way over to mardi gras (trust me on this one. I’ve seen it and it doesn’t work.) The lace doesn’t fit in with the look of the orchids and roses. I could see working in the burlap roses but that would be your best “touch of shabby.”
I’d save the lace for the tables (center doilies or runners) ditto with the pearls. I’d go with pearl sprays in floral centerpieces. Since the orchids are expensive I’d keep those to just the bouquets and use the peacock feathers in the centerpieces to get those colors.
Personally I like to keep the “colored flowers” for the bride’s maids but that’s just my opinion. Colors in the bride’s bouquet always seem to distract from the bride herself to my eye, but considering how many bridal bouquet’s I’ve made for clients with all kinds of colors I’m pretty sure I’m in the minority on that one.

Well white is a general color and it will definitely go for anything.
