when planning a do-it-yourself wedding…..?

I have noticed that alot of people planning their own weddings, without the help of a wedding planner, carry notebooks. I’m just curious as to what would be found in these notebooks? I am in the process of planning my own wedding & since I’m barely getting started I could use all the help I can get. Minus the wedding planner since they don’t fit in my budget.

I have a binder with all my wedding stuff in it. You can buy planners, but I think they are a waste of money. Get a good checklist- any website has plenty! I have tabs for my venue, the decor, the photographer, my caterer, Guests (including invites), music, etc.

I have copies of all my contracts with my vendors in it. I also have some inspiration pictures I took out of magazines or whatever for various things- like my centerpieces, and what I want my make up/hair to look like.

I don’t know what your budget is (and don’t want to), but I think you’d be suprised at what a planner can do. I met with one, and she had deals with many vendors that would have saved us more than her fee! She also owned all the vases we would need for the centerpieces- so we wouldn’t have to buy them, saving us about $400. The only reason we didn’t hire her is because we ended up doing our wedding out of state instead.

Back in the day when my sister, friends & I were planning our weddings, we never heard the term “wedding planner.” We all had beautiful weddings thanks to our mothers, sisters, friends and extended family. We had all been to, been in many weddings before our day came. We knew what to do, what to expect and laboriously read Emily Post. We didn’t have the internet.

Today, so many people exclude children from their weddings. I see so many questions on this forum from young women that are about to be a bride or bridesmaid that have never attended a wedding. It just breaks my heart that they didn’t get the lead from those before them.

You are so fortunate that you have the resources on the internet. There are website like theknot.com and weddingwire.com that have checklists, etiquette, and even help you set up a website for your wedding. There is also a website frugalbride.com. It’s based in Canada so the vendor info might not be useful, but they have so much info on who pays for what, etiquette, etc.

plan a wedding by yourself,you can do it according your image,and your like.You will enjoy your wedding.i support you,and i will do it myself in the future.

I keep my wedding planning book as a reference to take notes and keep all of my records in…like receipts for what I have paid for thus far, my color cards for my dresses and all of the information I gathered when comparing my venues (price lists, notes, rules). The book also has a list of questions to ask when interviewing different wedding vendors and wedding venues to make sure you don’t forget to ask certain questions that might be of importance to you.

My binder contained all my spreadsheets with vendor info. I interviewed tons of vendors so I had lists of many photogs, DJ’s, florists, salons, etc and all their rates. That way if one of my vendors canceled on the day of the wedding, I could easily call other vendors and try to get a replacement at the last minute. I also had pics of how I wanted the venue to set up my centerpieces and sweetheart table. And the #1 thing you need is a schedule for the wedding day and the days leading up to it. We had people flying in on Weds & Thurs that had to be picked up at the airport, checked into hotels, I needed hotel confirmation numbers handy, flight itineraries, then a to do list for the day before the wedding and rehearsal, and a schedule of when each vendor was showing up at the venue on the wedding day. The coordinator at my venue said I was the most organized bride she ever had!
